Goals of Retirement
Tammie’s Retirement Party
We began our retirement adventure in 2022. After 42 years in Christian education, I retired in May and my wife retired in December. Part of our preparation for retirement was researching what a successful retirement looked like. Wes Moss’ research on happy retirees was especially helpful as we planned our own retirement. According to his research, the happiest retirees stayed busy with three to five core pursuits that took up their time, were active in their church, had an active social life, were close to family, were healthy and physically active, had a paid off home, and saved enough financial resources to be comfortable. Based on that research, here were our goals heading into retirement:
Get more involved with our local church.
Travel especially to national parks.
Get in better shape.
Spend more time with family.
Try new activities and have fun.
Keep our minds active.
Self-manage our financial resources.
In future posts, we will describe how we have gone about accomplishing those goals.
