Summer Activities: Part 2 (July 2025)

Family Time Activities

We spent a lot of time this summer with our daughter and our three grandchildren. Here were some of our favorite activities.

Topgolf

We purchased the Topgolf Summer Fun Pass at the end of May. The pass gives you access to one bay with up to 6 people for a 2-hour session every day, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 5:oo pm and Saturday-Sunday from 9:00 am - noon. The Summer Fun Pass is good from May 26-September 1. This year it cost $250. However, we bought gift cards to Topgolf from Costco to bring the price down. A $100 gift card cost $80, and a $50 gift card cost $40. So, we actually paid $200 for the Summer Fun Pass. Topgolf normally charges by the hour per bay, not per person. The costs vary based on the day and time of day. During the summer $20 per hour is the average cost for Monday-Friday during the day. Our pass paid for itself after five two-hour visits.

We have been going one or two times every week. By the end of the summer, we will have gone about 20 times.

Hickory Knob State Park and Resort

When we visited all the South Carolina State Parks in 2023, we were impressed with Hickory Knob State Park and Resort. It is the only resort in the state park system. The lodging is basic 1960s motor lodge. The rooms and bathrooms are small. However, they have some very interesting amenities. This resort has a large swimming pool, a restaurant (but with limited days and hours), a game room with pool and ping pong, axe throwing, archery, skeet shooting, and a golf course.

We took our two grandsons with us for three days. Over those three days we swam, played golf, hiked, threw axes, shot arrows, played pool, and played hundreds of games of ping pong. We plan on going back ourselves in the fall to kayak and skeet shoot.
