Shenandoah National Park, Lancaster, and Hershey, PA (Fall 2022)
In the fall of 2022, my wife was completing her last semester as a professor of education and I was at home being a house husband and getting use to retirement. In late September, my wife was scheduled to speak at a Christian school convention being held in Pennsylvania and I was the designated driver. I also was in charge of the booth promoting Bob Jones University Press and Bob Jones University School of Education while my wife led several workshops.
Shenandoah National Park
On the way up to Pennsylvania, we decided to stop for a few hours at Shenandoah National Park. We stopped at the visitor’s center then drove on Skyline Drive through the heart of the park. We stopped at several overlooks and took two small hikes. There were some beautiful views of the Shenandoah Valley.
Lancaster Area
We stayed at a nice hotel where the Christian school convention was being held. The grounds were beautiful, and I had excellent scenery for my morning walk each day. After the convention ended, we stayed another day to do some sight-seeing in Amish country and to attend a performance of David at the Sight and Sound Theater. The performance was excellent, and we were glad we stayed for the opportunity.
Hershey, PA
The last stop of this trip was to Hershey, PA. Our daughter drove up from her home at the time in northern Virginia to join us. We visited the Hershey World of Chocolate, took a trolley tour of Hershey, and joined a chocolate taste testing. Our favorite activity was taking the trolley tour. We learned a lot about Milton Hershey. We were especially interested in learning about the Milton Hershey School which is a boarding school for K-12 students. We also ate a snack at Hershey World. It was a warm pretzel with various dips including milk chocolate, of course.
