Fall Arrives (September 2026)
September saw slightly cooler morning temperatures by the end of the month and an increase in our travel. Most of our September was spent taking care of our mothers in different parts of the country.
Texas
As we have gotten older, the 17-hour drive to Texas has gotten more difficult. In the last few years, we have been taking two days to travel with a stop for the night in Alabama. This year we have decided to fly out of Greenville, South Carolina and into Shreveport, LA. We rented a car and drove to Mount Pleasant, Texas where we stayed at the Hampton Inn. We then drove 30 minutes each day to visit Tammie’s mom who is in an assisted living facility in Winnsboro, Texas. We were there a week and visited Tammie’s mom each day. Most days consisted of doctor visits, shopping, going to church, and going out to eat. We also took her to visit relatives in Nacogdoches, Texas. Tammie was able to visit with her aunt and two of her cousins.
Granddaughter
September saw us closing up the community pool with a few last swims. The weather remained very warm, so the afterschool swims were enjoyable. We stopped after school for ice cream a few times as well. And finally, we ended the month by adopting a metal rooster that was given to my granddaughter by her great grandmother from Michigan.
Michigan
We made an unscheduled trip back to Michigan. Don’s mother needed a couple of trips to the doctor. Don and his sister visited an elder law attorney to get some answers to questions involving health care and financial power of attorney for his mom. Finally, we made stops to visit several assisted living and nursing home facilities. We also brought back some mementos from his mom’s house.
Topgolf
We finished off the summer by visiting Topgolf one more time. Don’s shoulder injury and Tammie’s knee injury limited the number of times we participated in Topgolf this summer.
