August Sizzles (August 2026)

The average high temperature in Greenville, SC in August is 88 degrees. This August we had 21 days where the high temperature was 90 degrees or higher. This may be one of the hottest Augusts on record.

Detroit Trip

We travelled to Detroit to help celebrate Don’s mother’s 90th birthday. Besides taking her to doctors’ appointments, we went out to eat with family, shopped at several stores, got her nails done, and even visited the Henry Ford Museum. When we weren’t chauffeuring mom around, we were walking at our park in Lincoln Park, Council Point.

Home Free Concert

Our favorite acapella group, Home Free, had a concert at the Newberry Opera House during the month of August. We enjoy listening to and dancing to several Home Free songs. Two years ago we saw them in concert in Louisiana where we stopped en route to Texas.

Before the concert we had dinner at the Steelhorse Smokehouse. The restaurant has a biker theme. The food was good and our dessert was delivered by a robot.

The city of Newberry, SC and the Newberry Opera House is a fantastic venue with only 400 seats. So, every seat is close to the performers.

Home Free is on their Highways and High Seas tour and we had a wonderful time listening to them perform. We decided to spend the night after the concert at the Hampton Inn which is right across the street from the Opera House.

Grandkids

Our youngest grandson turned 16 in August. Besides celebrating with cake and ice cream we also took him shopping where he was able to spend some of his birthday money on clothes of his choosing.

16th Birthday

The hot temperatures meant we spent a good amount of time at the neighborhood pool with our granddaughter. She loves the water and has become a very good swimmer. We also like to get some ice cream at Pink Mama’s after swimming.

Topgolf

We continued making good use of our Summer Fun Pass at Topgolf. We invited friends and family to join us on several occasions.
