Fall for Myrtle Beach: Week 2 (November 2025)
Pirates
Our second week in Myrtle Beach was exciting because it was my 70th birthday. Our daughter joined us to help celebrate. On Monday evening, after our daughter arrived, we attended the Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show. This was our third time attending this show although it was slightly different with a Christmas theme. The dinner is soup, roasted half chicken, slice of ham, corn on the cob, biscuit, and macaroni and cheese. There was also a choice of soft drinks and an apple streusel for dessert. But the highlight of the evening is the show which contains pirates, mermaids, parrots, sea lions, pyrotechnics, acrobatics, and music. It is a fun show especially for kids.
Skydiving
On my birthday my wife surprised with a card that said we were going skydiving that day. About 2 years ago, one of our former students had a Facebook post showing her tandem skydiving experience. I mentioned that I would like to do that in the future. My wife was noncommittal. Last year when we visited Florida and the Florida Keys, I saw that there was a skydiving experience that we would pass on our way to Key West. I put skydiving as one of the possible activities for that day, but my wife said I could go but that she wouldn’t. I said I would only go if she did as well. The next time skydiving got mentioned was on my birthday. As it turned out, the skydiving placed contacted us before we left for the 1 1/2-hour drive that they had to cancel due to bad weather (high winds). We didn’t get to go skydiving until Thursday of week 2.
Our skydiving experience took place with Skydive Coastal Carolina located in Southport, North Carolina. After arriving we listened to a safety briefing, signed away our legal rights, got in our jump suits, put on our safety harnesses, and met our jump instructors. We got on a too small airplane piloted by a kid who looked 16. Tammie and her instructor jumped first then I followed harnessed to my instructor 30 seconds later. The jump from the plane was the most terrifying and thrilling thing I have ever done. We were 10,000 feet above the earth and during our 45 second free fall we reached a speed of 120 mph. When the parachute opened, I was a very happy man. I was allowed to maneuver the parachute for a few seconds. Touching the ground was a joyous experience. Thank you, Tammie, for an exciting birthday gift.
Other Activities
The rest of our 2nd week at the beach was a bit more sedate. We continued our morning exercise in the fitness center, walked together on the beach, relaxed in the hot tub, ate out several times, practiced dancing, and even played miniature golf at Lost Treasure in North Myrtle Beach. The weather went from a low of 35 degrees in the beginning of the week to a high in the low 70s. All in all, it was an enjoyable and memorable week.
