Summer Birthdays
Our granddaughter turned 10 this summer.
Topgolf
Like last summer we purchased a Summer Fun Pass to Topgolf. Since we were gone to Alaska for much of June, we have tried to go at least once a week to Topgolf. We’ve also taken our grandchildren and daughter as well.
Allen Jacobs Summer Camp
One early July morning we got to spend some time thanking the officers and volunteers who are running the 10th annual Allen Jacobs Summer Camp for the Greenville Police Department. This camp is a free, week-long program focused on violence prevention, leadership, and building positive relationships. It is open to 5th and 6th grade students in Greenville County. A big thank you to Chief Howie Thompson, officers of the Greenville Police Department, the volunteers, and sponsors who make this camp possible and for remembering Allen's service and sacrifice to his community.
Also, please note that the bicycles that were given away to the top campers for each team were sponsored by Bob Jones University.
Swimming
Our neighborhood pool is one of the favorite places for our grandchildren during the summer. We spent many hours there in July.
Anniversary Trip
July 29th was our 48th anniversary. At the same time we enrolled our grandsons to attend the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Young Adult Camp. The camp took place on St. Simons Island in Georgia. So we drove them to the camp and while they enjoyed the week at camp we enjoyed celebrating our anniversary by exploring in the area. We enjoyed visiting St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, and Brunswick, Georgia.
Before dropping off our grandsons, we toured the St. Simons Island Lighthouse and Museum including walking up all 129 steps to the top of the lighthouse.
After dropping them off we walked to Neptune Park and Pier and walked the beach at Coast Guard Station.
We also spent a day on Jekyll Island. We visited the historic district, colonial ruins, Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Great Dunes Beach, and Driftwood Beach which was our absolute favorite.
On our next to last day in Georgia, we visited the World War II Home Front Museum, East Beach, and Fort Frederica National Monument on St. Simons Island. Later in the day we drove into downtown Brunswick to eat dinner at the Indigo Coastal Shanty and to visit the Lover's Oak (which is estimated to be over 500 years old.
On our final full day in Georgia, we got up close with nature on the Earth Day Nature Trail in Brunswick, GA. The next morning, we picked up our grandsons from camp and started the 6-hour drive home.
